High Desert Trail System The High Desert Trail System is a single track trail that provides a variety of terrain with the least technical beginning at the East Trail. The three loops of of the trail - First Mesa, Second Mesa, and Third Mesa - increase in technical difficultly of terrain. Map/signs are posted at all intersections. Please do not ride or hike on these trails when conditions are wet and muddy.
Red Rock Park Trails The Pyramid Rock trail is Gallup’s flagship trail and Church Rock Trail leads you to spectacular views of the Church Rock sandstone spires.
UNM Gallup Campus Trail UNM Gallup - Fitness Trail is a 1.3 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Gallup, New Mexico that features beautiful wild flowers and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, nature trips, and bird watching and is accessible year-round.
Zuni Mountains Just east of Gallup are the Zuni Mountains and McGaffey Recreation Area. The Hilso Trail Head at mile 7.5 on NM 400 is the gateway to 26 miles of designated mountain bike and hiking trails as well as miles of traditional trails. Map/Signs are posted at all intersections on designated trails. These trails are normally closed from December until mid-April.
The People’s Flag This half mile easy hike is on a crushed rock trail established in 2017 to lead up to the flag that overlooks the City of Gallup. This trail is located on Hasler Valley Road next to the entrance to Michele's Readi-Mix.
