Beginning in the 1930s with the famous WPA murals, Gallup began a lasting tradition of offering publicly accessible, outdoor works of art. In keeping with this custom, the City of Gallup commissioned a mural project in 2005 to capture the area’s heritage and history as well as beautify the city. Now nine amazing murals are within easy walking distance of each other in the downtown area. From mining, rodeos and western life, to a commemoration of the Long Walk and Native American trading, you’ll find a great depiction of the area’s history.
